Works, Housing and Water Resources Minister Ahmed Ibrahim has threatened to blacklist contractors who fail to deliver on drain-dredging projects across Ghana.

Speaking at the close of a three-day strategic retreat organised by the ministry on Monday, September 7, 2026, the minister warned that non-performing contractors risk being barred from future government contracts under the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources and its agencies and departments.

He emphasised that Ghanaians deserve value for their taxes and announced plans to inspect project sites nationwide to assess progress.

“And the contractors, I am using this medium to tell you that if we come and you are not on site, we will blacklist you. Once you are blacklisted, you will not qualify to bid for contracts in any of our agencies and departments again,” Ibrahim stated.

"The era of political entitlement must be a thing of the past. You voted for us to come to power, so you must work for us to win," he emphasised.

He directed ministry agencies to develop consolidated action plans with measurable targets, timelines, and regular progress reports.

The warning targets the longstanding issue of contractors securing public contracts only to abandon sites or leave work idle without justification, leading to delays, cost overruns, and incomplete infrastructure.

Ibrahim, who assumed the portfolio in a recent ministerial reshuffle, stressed that government investments must yield visible results.

The remarks come amid ongoing efforts to improve drainage infrastructure and reduce flooding risks in urban areas, particularly in Greater Accra and other regions prone to choked drains and waterways.
