For £10 million, Ghana should be demanding far more than a few words on a football shirt. Where is the measurable return? Where is the strategy to attract serious investors, international tourists, businesses, airlines and major sporting events?
A country with Ghana’s history, culture, beaches, heritage, hospitality and growing creative economy should be building a global tourism brand, not simply buying advertising space and hoping exposure translates into visitors.
Imagine what £10 million could achieve if invested strategically in international marketing campaigns, airport and tourism infrastructure, digital promotion, diaspora engagement, destination development and partnerships with airlines and global travel platforms.
The real question is not whether “Visit Ghana” should appear on Sunderland’s shirt.
The question is whether Ghana has a clear strategy for turning international visibility into billions in tourism revenue, jobs and investment.
This is exactly the kind of short-term, headline-driven thinking that keeps Ghana spending money without building lasting value.
