Ghana's Educational System was something very proud to write about until Efo John Rawlings imposed his JSS and SHS on Ghanaians despite suggestions from Educationists that that Educational System is not the best. After imposing that on Ghanaians, he made his son and daughters write the GCE O and A Levels to be admitted into Universities in Britain with Ghana's stolen money. We were Teachers at that time were against that Educational System but Efo Julor John Rawlings will not budge. I worked for the WAEC as an examiner and a Marker and know the type of students that we were churning into the system. Our students can hardly write any good essays in English. At that time, we the Markers were asked to pass the students if we understood what the students have written to answer their questions. Britain still make their students to write the GCE O and the A Levels before they can enter the University in the country. Our Educational System was ruined by Rawlings. He attended Achimota School but was academically very poor.
Sadly enough, the JHS and SHS were started without any good Textbooks for the students. Some schools did not have any writing materials. Some Teachers had to improvise by using Dried Cassava tubes as chalk. Nothing could be done about it. No Chairs and Writing Tables were available. Students had to sit and squat to write. New Teaching Subjects like Life Skills and Social Studies were introduced but the teachers had not been trained to teach them. This explains why our Educational System is now at its lowest ebb.

Rawlings for me was the worst thing that happened to Ghana. Irrespective, this Rawlyings education system is turning out brilliant minds and knowledgeable persons.
Please excuse me, blantly, the people who have harmed and are harming Ghana the most are people who are the products of the earlier education system that produced, i think, you and i and all those who have been in charge of the country we are crying about. It is the products of that education system that causes the youth of today who are products of the Rawlings system, to go and queue at military recruitment centres. To lose their lives. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that system. But its implementation and use. An absolute distinction must be made after JHS, wether an individual is handy, bookish, sporty, artistic or whatever, for the person to then use SHS to strengthen their call and talent. Then to tertiary level to solidify it. If all well done, the product is good. Level and number of professionals or professionalism in Ghana hadn't worsen. Ghana still supplies the Western world with loads of highly able, brilliant professionals. Corruption, championed by those with the earlier type of education, though, in abundance. I think

You are right. We need competent Teachers first. How do you get competent Teachers if they are not paid for over one and a half years of working continuously? Some Teachers have been working for that long without any payment. Some Teachers have developed the Philosophy that IF THEY PRETEND TO PAY YOU, YOU ALSO PRETEND TO WORK. That is why our educational system is at the Doldrums.

So you want us to freeze the plan, then go and force all the former and current teachers back to school, re-train them in competency, then re-send them to the classrooms to re-train the current pupils and students before insisting that they do better in Maths and English?
Do you know that a competent student today is the one who will become the competent teacher tomorrow?

I agree, as long as that research includes extra-curricula, self-training in Maths and competency in English-language writing and speaking, using other sources of material (other books, publications, outside the classroom books) to enhance one's literacy and competence.
Right now, it is the old, poor-quality teachers who keep delivering failure in quality, so if we start carrying out the new plan now, then today's kids will become the better teachers tomorrow, from where the quality legacy will grow.
Right now, our kids will be no match for their counterparts in Zimbabwe.

The fail were deliberate coming from wicked NDC government. They made plane that during Nana Addo presidency era the children passing exams were considered but Ghanaians we’re witnessing children doing wonders in international schools competitions across the globe.because NDC was jealous and now they deliberately fool Ghanaians to vote for them to come and destroy their children education and dreams. As a matter of fact NDC succeeded and destroyed their children education and they are happy our senseless president has destroyed their children education because they are fools.NDC special told Ghanaians education is not their priority but want Ghanaians children to illiterate so they can use them for demonstrating and rioting or hooliganism to disturb public peace and fools vote for them massively.

When you say "science"...what do you mean? You may realise that a fisherman's son who is able to canoe for hours into days on the open ocean and return to the sane beach is highly scientific?? My grandmother never sat in a classroom. She knew every plant, its usage and its biology, more than, i dare say, some "professional" plant scientist. No child should be restricted and judged by a hand-picked desciplines. All children/people have various talents. Its the job of educationists/parents and caregivers to identify these, shape and direct these talent. Not judged and condemned or hindered. I think.

Narrow minded shallow thinking. Education is learning to do something and good Education is when it is taught and learned well. Whatever that thing is. Not just pen and paper knowledge especially not English language. Even the average English person dont know English. Basic ability to express oneself and be able to understand, communicate and do simple arithmetic is decent enough to have people being to learn, comprehend and express their various talents in various ways.
