Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has expressed frustration over persistent claims that Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has incurred losses, saying the issue has now reached the point where “Asafo songs” are being composed about the alleged losses.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on September 2, 2026, Pratt challenged those making the claims to produce evidence of the alleged loss.
“I am tired. Where is the GoldBod loss? And you know the funny thing. Now, Asafo songs are being composed about GoldBod loss. Where is the loss? Show me where the loss is,” he asked.
According to Pratt, the figures being described as GoldBod losses are instead the result of a difference between the Bank of Ghana’s official exchange rate and the prevailing foreign exchange rate.
He explained that the existence of two different exchange rates would naturally create a gap in the books and should not automatically be interpreted as mismanagement, recklessness or theft.

“The fact that we are operating with two different exchange rates suggests that there will be a gap,” he indicated.
Pratt said he had examined GoldBod’s financial statements after obtaining a copy and found no loss recorded by the institution.
“I’ve looked at the books of GoldBod. Thankfully, Moro gave me a copy of the financial statements of GoldBod. That’s where I got the copy from. There is no loss anywhere,” he stated.
He questioned the continued references to “GoldBod losses”, particularly as the issue had now become the subject of songs.
“So, this loss, loss, loss, loss, where is it coming from? To the extent that you are now composing Asafo songs,” Pratt said.
