Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has disclosed that Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited has paid GH¢391.2 million (US$35 million) in dividends to the Government of Ghana.

According to him, the amount represents a significant increase from the US$5 million dividend paid by the mining company to the state last year.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Dr Ato Forson said the increased dividend reflects the company’s improved profitability.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I thank Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited for presenting a GH¢391,195,000.00 (US$35 million) dividend to the state, up from US$5 million last year,” he wrote.

He noted that the payment demonstrates the need for Ghana to secure a fairer share of the revenues generated from its natural resources.

“This strong increase reflects the company’s profitability. Ghana must receive its fair share from the extractive sector,” he stated.

Forson explained that the government introduced the sliding-scale system to ensure that the country benefits more when mining companies record higher profits.

“That is why we introduced the sliding-scale system: when mining companies earn more, the people of Ghana must benefit more,” he added.
