The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has settled GH¢2.3 billion in obligations to bondholders affected by the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), completing its mandatory payments for 2026.

The latest payment, amounting to GH¢2,306,202,372.09, brings COCOBOD’s total payments to DDEP bondholders for the year to more than GH¢2.68 billion.

In a statement released on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, COCOBOD said the payment forms part of its efforts to systematically settle its financial obligations and strengthen the financial position of Ghana’s cocoa sector.

“The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) wishes to inform bondholders, investors, cocoa industry stakeholders, and the general public that it has settled an amount of GH¢2,306,202,372.09, completing its mandatory payment obligations to holders of bonds affected by the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) for the year 2026,” the statement said.

According to the Board, an earlier coupon payment of GH¢376,325,910.09 was made in March 2026.

This brings the total amount paid to DDEP bondholders during the year to GH¢2,682,582,282.18.

COCOBOD said it had also settled GH¢162 million in July 2026 to holders of Cocoa Bills who did not participate in the DDEP.

The July payment, it said, brought its outstanding obligations to the affected non-DDEP Cocoa Bill holders to an end.

COCOBOD said the various payments demonstrate its commitment to responsible financial management while working to improve the sustainability of the cocoa sector.

“Taken together, these payments demonstrate the Board’s commitment to responsible financial management and the systematic settlement of its financial obligations as part of the broader effort to strengthen the financial sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector, under the guidance of the Ministry of Finance,” it said.

The Board said the completion of the 2026 DDEP-related payments marks another step in efforts to address its financial obligations and support the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.

The development comes as COCOBOD continues to implement measures aimed at strengthening its financial position and meeting its obligations to investors and other stakeholders in the cocoa industry.
