Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has joined Asafo Company Number One and Two from Efutu in chanting “Sammy atɔn gold, abɔ ka” during a visit to his Accra residence.

The Asafo groups visited the Minority Leader to show solidarity with him.

In a video shared on X on August 31, 2026, Afenyo-Markin is seen dancing and joining the group as they chant the song.

The phrase “Sammy atɔn gold, abɔ ka” literally translates to “Sammy sold gold and incurred a loss.”

Extortion Allegation: Nobody has any video or audio of me doing anything – Afenyo-Markin

The chant is linked to the ongoing controversy over the reported $1.7 billion loss associated with the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme in 2025.

Afenyo-Markin has demanded accountability over the reported loss and questioned GoldBod’s role in the programme.

However, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi has rejected claims that GoldBod itself incurred a US$1.7 billion loss, insisting that the allegation is false.

He has also defended GoldBod’s financial performance, pointing to an operational surplus.
