If you know the outgoings of MPs you realize that their salary is not too much. If you consider constituents demands for school fees, hospital bills, rent, funeral donations, and other social engagements you'll realize that their pay pales into insignificance. Frankie, you are very right. Nuamah Donkor was my childhood friend and I used to visit him at his residence in Accra. As early as the word EARLY can mean, there will be a long queue in front of his house from his constituents and other Party members trying to see him for all sorts of assistance, particularly. Some get there as early as 4am. So he decided a plan to leave home around 3:30 in the morning and didn't come back home until 10pm when the his security would ask the waiters to leave so that he can close the gate. Even then, some will be lurking outside waiting for his return. So, he will park his car somewhere and use the Backdoor to get to his house. I usually laughed at him and pitied him when he arrived. But strangely enough, most of the visitors are NPP people because the people of Asokore Koforidua are mostly NPP.
He had to attend all funerals and made quite a big funeral donation. Hahahaha .An MP has to attend all funerals I was a teacher then and lived in the same town with him but nobody bothered me except some few friends who may want some Beer or any kind of liquor to drink. I seldom gave them anything because I needed no votes to be an MP. Teaching is by Government appointment. As at now, I have a lady and church Harvest programs at all his constituencies. Can you count the number of Churches that his constituency may have? I just pity them A friend who is an MP. The only time she comes home is after 10 PM on only Sundays. For the rest of the other days, she leaves Parliament to her friend's house at Nsawam. Meanwhile she has her own house at Accra. She keeps changing her Phone number except the Phone she uses with her husband and Children. It is not easy to be an MP. Besides, you have to know how to always tell lies.to your constituents. And your husband or wife also should learn how to hide.
Constituents ask for everything, including School Fees, Chop Money, lorry fare to go to work, and anything that has to do with money. I was glad that I was a College Teacher and was not bothered. An MP who doesn't dish out things to his or her Constituents is seen as wicked and strong-headed. I have taken my father's advice never to be a Politician in life. When MPs steal money, it is the Constituents who made the one do so.

Is this paying of school fees and funerals a constitutional mandate? This is just simply another form of vote-buying. When most Ghanaians have given up on these parliamentarians, they then unwisely come up with this? Unbelievable. Worse of all is that, those Ghanaians who work hard to make this kind of salaries available to the MPs, are then given a 9 to 12% increment on their GHC1,500 monthly salary. If it wasn't so sad, it would be very funny. Aba!!!

Here you go, people!!!!
Ghanaian Members of Parliament (MPs) operate under a revised remuneration structure following a major public sector pay adjustment.
Basic Salary
Members of Parliament receive a basic salary of approximately GH¢60,000 per month.
This figure represents a 100% upward adjustment from the previous basic salary cap of roughly GH¢30,000 per month that remained consistent through 2024.
Allowances and Additional Benefits
The basic salary does not include the extensive package of allowances allocated to legislators. While exact disbursement amounts fluctuate based on parliamentary subcommittee roles, approved legislative instruments, and periodic reviews by the Emoluments Committee, standard parliamentary allowances generally cover:
Facilitation & Office Maintenance:
Allocations for constituency office operations, administrative stationery, and support staff.
Sitting & Committee Allowances:
Stipends paid for attending parliamentary sittings and specialized committee meetings (often calculated as a percentage of the consolidated salary).
Travel & Transport:
Per diems and travel allowances for official parliamentary duties both domestic and international.
Housing & Utilities:
Support mechanisms or lump-sum arrangements toward accommodation and utility management.
Ex-Gratia:
A constitutional resettlement grant paid at the end of every four-year parliamentary term.

Yes, the MPs' salaries have doubled—now GH¢60,000 a month excluding allowances . That's a lot. But then again, their workload has doubled too. Constituents come to them for everything—school fees, hospital bills, funerals, even food. If they set up a fund, people take and don't pay back.
Comparing them to teachers or other professionals misses the point. Even those professionals look to MPs for help. The salary may be high, but the system is broken—and that's the real issue. The system should be fixed with HONEST people so that everyone will be CONTENT with what he or she earns.

These useless MPs live in Ghana or on another planet? Owen's Animals farm comes into memory. WORKERS CAN GO ON STRIKE FOR SALARY INCREAMENTS.

What again Ghana-Man to warrant consuming everything which even not satiable. Upon all these none of Ghanaian Past Presidents had ever won the African Integrity Award. Disqualified on corruptible offences. And if the head is rotten image the rest.........
The package would have been nothing, if they are performing developmental projects. When they are gone nothing to remember them with. They go there for selfish interest, never the service to the nation. With the numerous natural resources the equation as culmination is poor infrastructure. Thank You.

Now hopefully even the dumbest amongst us can understand why politician are lying if they speak or tell voters that they care about the health, safety, security and the living conditions of the Ghanaians voter.
Voters must also understand that governments of Ghana cannot solve problems of moral bankruptcies, crimes of moral turpitide and certainly cannot stop bribery and corruption. If government has passed a law to increase the monthly salary of MP's by 100 percent while the government does not and has not considered a 50 percent increase in the monthly wage of civil and public servants then you will be a foolish voter willing to die for a party or candidate.

We are in Ghana not in the USA or Europe for God sake! 7.2 000000 cedis per year, multiple by 282 parliamentarians. Now I understand why teachers don’t get their salaries in time. What a mess! We borrow money from IMF and other sources to finance allowances and salaries of politicians, this is my understanding, we collect taxes to pay public servants l guess. Our living standards should determine whether we need to pay out such salaries for political services. What is the average salary in Ghana? How much does a university professor earns in Ghana? Please, don’t make Politics a profession! Keep on running up debts and the youths of tomorrow will clear it up! NPP, NDC, your days are numbered.

MPs their Common Fund to pay School fees and not their salaries. They should prove me wrong. When workers demand better salaries, their leaders are called to the Jubilee House and given fat salaries that is why governments are treating workers like nonetities. MPs and other government appointees are given fat End of Service Benefits at the end of every four years but a government employee who worked for 40 years was given a peanut. Who is to blame. Let us not sit down for them to cheat us every day. There should be an uprising by workers.

Who goes to the minister's House for school fees? Their pays are even higher than parliamentarians! No body is also talking about the fact that though ministerial positions have been reduced to 60,instead of the 100 plus when Akuffo Addo was president, the cost of keeping them now is two times more to the tax payer! Most of the worse of a nation become part of these groups of people , they are greedy, selfish corrupt, inconsiderate, incompetent, divisive toxic, manipulative, lairs ,hypocrate, arrogant, egoistic, etc

And other government workers don't even receive 5% of what they are earning. Hmmmmmm, God have mercy on us
This does not explain how these MPs put up mansions in their first year in office. Where do they get all the extra money from? Parliament itself is a den of criminals and dubious individuals with ulterior motives.
ssnit contribution of 3,300 cedis, income tax of 15,900 cedis and net take home salary of 40,800 cedis. Well, well,.......
No wonder that a jackass like Captain Smart also wants to be a Parliamentarian. Even Kwame A Plus is a Parliamentarian. What the heck!
They have doubled their salary but do not want to pay nurses, teachers, etc. That is the political landscape in Africa. Loot and share!!!
Ordinary folks are struggling. These low-class MPs are smiling at the banks
This is criminal. Parliament, politicians are greedy noisy Bandits. Robbing 35million Ghanaians for their personal comfort. We are fools, voting for these Bandits.
Im not among cos I don't vote
How does medical Doctors earn, and we want them to take good care of us , we are jokers indeed, what kind of benefits are getting from this mp ‘s
For a poor country like Ghana which can’t even assemble basic healthcare infrastructure, this shit is really crazy!
WHY PUBLISHED THIS?. WAS IT NECESSARY?.

Horse-trading shiesters doing only what they know best.
Tweaaah!!
Civil servants should advise themselves on these politicians who don't care about government workers
The new government is working hard and deserves the goodies
I suggest that ordinary working class take home 1250 Ghana cedis
Wicked politicians evil people you increase your salary by 100% God kill you all evil people KWAASHIAAFO
Why should they be taking more when the cedi is stronger? The NDC has failed to protect the public purse.
The government should not complain anymore if workers request for pay rise. If MP salaries have been doubled, it means that the money is there for pay increases
To me if they do the work that is expected from them it is ok to hear that they are getting that amount 60,000 Ghana Cedis because it is not up to 5000 Euro a month.
Let’s consolidate their salary to avoid paying allowances to them. Since allowances are sources of fraud. Strong Ghana means tough decisions
Clogsag and Tuc must listen well and advice themselves...

You see why if anybody supports this government, you are an idiot. I rest my case.
This is unreasonably too much. Between this and the lowest paid has so big a gap that's frightening! A country, where 57% of the people are below the poverty line, we should debate this out of parliament. They do nothing to p ...
