When I retired in the US, for seven years I volunteered at a non profit that focused on preventing homelessness among people with mental illness. Some of the clients were Ghanaians. Please don’t be judgemental when it comes to homelessness. You will be surprised to learn that more than 80% of the homeless population have mental illness. So, this non profit, provides housing for the homeless population without regards to ethinicity or national origins or religious affiliation. The best thing about this non profit is that, they don’t segregate the homeless population. It buys single family homes and turns it into group homes supervised by licensed social workers. They also rent apartments for their clients all for free. Most of their properties are in the richest county in the DC area all backed by the full faith and credit of this non profit.
