A Ghanaian man, Daniel Ofori Asante, has accused the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, of negligence in the death of his wife, Theresa Boakye Dua, who died after seeking care for a scheduled Caesarean section.

Ofori Asante made the accusation in a statement ahead of Theresa’s burial on Friday, August 28, 2026, just 19 months after their marriage.

He said his wife’s death followed what he described as a failure by the healthcare system and the medical personnel responsible for her care.

According to him, Theresa had placed her trust in Ridge Hospital for the procedure but died after what he described as a “horrific ordeal” that began on July 16, 2026.

He said the loss has left their newborn son without his mother and deeply affected both families.

“Our baby boy has been robbed of the unconditional love of a devoted mother,” Ofori Asante said.

He also spoke about Theresa’s mother, saying it was particularly painful to watch her cope with the loss of her only child.

Ofori Asante recalled picking up his father-in-law from the airport two weeks ago after he returned to Ghana earlier than planned.

He said he and Theresa had seen him off in January, expecting him to return in 2027.

“He wasn’t scheduled to return to Ghana until 2027, yet here he is, brought home early by blatant negligence and unprofessionalism at the very highest level,” he stated.

Describing Theresa as “a gentle, peaceful, and unproblematic soul,” Ofori Asante accused those involved in her care of making reckless decisions that contributed to her death.

He said the family, Theresa’s colleagues at the Ministry of Health, members of ICGC Covenant Temple and their friends are struggling to come to terms with the loss.

Ofori Asante said the funeral would not mark the end of his pursuit of answers and promised to disclose more details about what happened after laying his wife to rest.

“After I honour my wife today, Friday, 28th August 2026, the full truth will be told,” he said, describing the events as involving “Unprofessionalism, Manipulation, and Extortion.”

He acknowledged that revealing what happened would not bring Theresa back but said he wanted the circumstances surrounding her death to be addressed so that other pregnant women and their families do not endure a similar experience.

As he prepared to bury his wife, Ofori Asante described Theresa as his “best friend, my soulmate, and the love of my life.”

“I love you endlessly, T. Da yie, me dɔfo pa,” he wrote.
