We want laws to governn hostel fees across the country. Anyone found violating that law should be surcharged and his facility should be closed down. We are a country where rules and regulations must be respected. The fact that you build a hostel does not give you the licence to just call any fee at your own discretion. Pls, Mr Commissioner ask fact. If the laws at that available, send a bill to parliament.

In the university like KNUST, private hostel/homestel rooms have separate prepaid electricity meters. GUSSS HOSTEL and HALLS don't.
Now, the problem they're talking about is more of private/individual hostels.
We bought our own prepaid credit, some even paid water bills (especially some homestels).
Now, an average single room with porch around Accra proper is about $100 per month. So a year is $1,200.00
Now, hostel rooms are just like single rooms with porch. So, why collecting GHS 20K to 30k ?
Is it because they're four in the room ?
Natural instinct should tell that those four should divide the $ 1200.00 and pay it, thus if they should even take Accra prices in Kumasi. Then they should allow students use the room for 12 months.
After all a student should be able to stay back around campus during vacations for whatever reason he wants to stay.
A student should be able to stay back and do some hustle during the vac before school reopens, if he wishes to.
GHANA IS JUST A DEN OF THIEVES BECAUSE OF A CORRUPT AND INEFFICIENT SYSTEM.

Most hostels don't have security. Few have gatekeepers, not security really. Only a handful have security personnels (like two). And those ones were charging GHS 6000 per student as at 2015/2016 academic year. I don't want to mention hostels here so you go and browse on them. See, there are hostels charging GHS 10K and more currently around KNUST. Legon is worst.
For cleaning, hostel management only takes care of walkways/corridors. Students take of their rooms or pay for private services.
