A woman whose house was demolished at Kojokrom in the Western Region ahead of road construction works under the government’s Big Push programme has alleged that she was not compensated for the property.

According to the woman, the property stands on privately owned land and does not belong to the government.

In a video that has gone viral on social media on August 15, 2026, she lamented that she was also not given sufficient time to vacate the property or remove her belongings.

“It is private land; it does not belong to the government. I have not received any compensation, and I was not given any notice to vacate the land,” she said.

The woman further claimed that she paid GH₵800 to secure an additional day to remove her belongings from the property, but the house was demolished before she could do so.

“I even paid GH₵800 for them to give me one day to remove my property, but they demolished it and kept everything outside,” she added.

The demolition forms part of preparatory works for road construction in the area as the government pushes ahead with its Big Push infrastructure programme.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways says work has commenced on 50 projects covering 1,144 kilometres under the programme, with a total of 77 projects being executed across all 16 regions.

Among the projects listed by the Ministry is the 23-kilometre Takoradi–Agona rehabilitation and dualisation project, including two dual-carriageway bridges.
