Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has officially assumed office as Ghana’s new Minister for Defence following a handing-over ceremony at the Ministry of Defence in Accra.

The ceremony formally marked the transfer of responsibilities to the new minister, who takes over at a time when the government is seeking to strengthen the country’s defence and national security architecture.

Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Yaw Brogya Genfi, welcomed Adjei to the Ministry and pledged his support for his leadership.

In a post on Facebook after the ceremony, Brogya Genfi described the transition as the beginning of a “new chapter” at the Ministry and said he was proud to serve alongside the new minister.

“Welcome home Boss. I am proud to serve alongside you as your Deputy Minister and I am even more proud to support your leadership,” he said.

According to the Deputy Minister, Adjei’s experience would be critical to advancing the vision of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, John Dramani Mahama.

Brogya Genfi also expressed appreciation to the out-going Acting Defence Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, for his leadership and contribution to the Ministry.

He commended Dr Forson for what he described as his calm leadership and collaborative approach, saying these helped make the transition seamless.

“Your calm leadership and collaboration made this transition seamless. It has been a great working relationship and I am grateful,” he stated.

The Deputy Minister subsequently called on the Chief Director, Chief of the Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Forces Sergeant Major and personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, as well as management and staff of the Ministry, to remain committed to excellence in the discharge of their duties.

Kenneth Gilbert Adjei was appointed to the position two weeks ago following a ministerial reshuffle announced by President John Dramani Mahama.

He previously served as Minister for Works and Housing.
