Several thugs identified as "Conti boys" have been arrested by officers of the Ghana Police Service at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional elections grounds.
They were arrested after allegedly firing a knockout while supporting aspiring Regional Secretary, Paul Yandoh.
The incident occurred during the ongoing regional elections on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as supporters gathered at the voting centre.
Under the party’s election guidelines, security arrangements for the exercise are the exclusive responsibility of the Ghana Police Service.
Heavy police presence as NPP holds regional elections on August 15
The NPP is holding its regional elections in 15 regions on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with the Western North Region scheduled to conduct its elections on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
The exercise forms part of the party’s internal reorganisation as it seeks to rebuild its structures and strengthen its grassroots base following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
The regional elections are expected to produce leadership teams that will oversee the party’s activities and mobilisation at the regional level as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
