A Ghanaian evacuee from South Africa has reportedly died shortly after arriving at the Accra International Airport.

According to a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday August, 14, 2026, the deceased was among 50 Ghanaians who arrived at 5:50 pm on an Air Tanzania flight from South Africa.

According to the Ministry, the deceased’s health condition began to deteriorate about 30 minutes before the flight landed in Accra.

However, a medical emergency team was on standby at the airport and swiftly attended to the deceased immediately after the flight arrived.

However, doctors confirmed the death at 6:55 pm after efforts to save the person failed.

“The Ministry is deeply saddened by the death of one of the Ghanaian evacuees from South Africa,” the statement said.

The Ministry said it has begun the necessary formalities to inform the deceased’s family.

It has also arranged for the remains of the deceased to be deposited at the Police Hospital for an autopsy.

The Ministry said it will provide further information after engaging formally with the bereaved family.

“The Ministry will provide an update on this sad development after formal engagement with the bereaved family,” the statement noted.
