New Patriotic Party (NPP) social media activist, Mohammed Buhari, popularly known as Gen Buhari, has narrated his ordeal during his recent detention in a cell in Jamestown, a suburb of Accra.

In a post on X, sighted by GhanaWeb on August 14, 2026, Buhari said he was held in cells near the sea under despicable conditions after turning himself in to the National Security in the company of his lawyer.

He stated that the facility had no running water throughout his detention.

“During my detention, there was no running water. So, I couldn’t bath until the day I was released and guess what? I had to use sachet water bought by inmates to clean myself,” he wrote.

“We also had to eat next to the toilet that couldn't be flushed due to water situation, so, waste built up all day and was only flushed once at night with sachet water. It was hell in there,” he added.

Buhari further said the experience was something he would never forget and expressed doubt that he could forgive the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for what he described as the treatment meted out to him.

He stated that he had not committed any crime and indicated he would later share a full account of his experience.

"This is something I will never forget, and I doubt I can ever forgive this NDC Government for what it has done to me. I will share my full account of what I experienced," he said.

Buhari and fellow activist Godfred Ansu Damoah were arrested by state security for circulating a video purportedly showing President John Mahama demanding GH¢150 million from the National Security Coordinator.

However, authorities described the video as AI-manipulated. A court granted both men bail of GH¢30,000 each with two sureties.

Reports also earlier indicated that the activists remained in custody for a period even after fulfilling the bail conditions.
