On the afternoon of August 13, 2026, the country was hit by reports of a sudden gun battle in Labone, Accra, when police officers intercepted a robbery syndicate.

Prominent media personality Nana Aba Anamoah, who found herself at the scene of the incident, has taken to social media to describe the intense moment as the scariest day of her life.

Writing on X shortly after hearing live gunfire in the neighborhood, Nana Aba shared video footage of the commotion.

"Oh, my God. Live gunshots. I have never seen anything like this before. Live oo at Labone. Boi no be small action here," she wrote.

Quote-tweeting another bystander who spotted her turning her SUV around to avoid the police cordon near the Esp Hotel, Nana Aba reflected on the terrifying incident:

"Scariest day of my life," she added.

Other eyewitnesses in the area also reported heavy gunfire in the vicinity, creating panic among motorists and passersby.

According to the official account from the Ghana Police Service, officers acted on intelligence around 10:45 a.m., indicating that a gang was planning coordinated attacks on banks in the Labone area, including GCB Bank, Ecobank, and Zenith Bank.

Two 'gunned down' as police foil robbery attack at Labone

A specialized police team was deployed to the scene and located the suspects waiting nearby in two parked vehicles: a Toyota Highlander and a Hyundai Tucson.

When the gang realized police were closing in, one vehicle attempted to speed away.

Officers chased the getaway car, arresting one suspect identified as Augustine Okechuku Maazi, while another occupant managed to flee on foot.

Meanwhile, the suspects in the second car opened fire on officers in an attempt to escape. Police returned fire in an exchange of shots, killing two of the suspects at the scene.

Authorities recovered both vehicles and a starter pistol from the operation, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing while the arrested suspect remains in custody.
