Former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has been released from custody following the withdrawal of an application by the Attorney-General seeking to stay the execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment acquitting and discharging her.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, Tamakloe-Attionu has been released after the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, struck out the Attorney-General’s application as withdrawn.

The decision clears the way for her release, nearly two weeks after the appellate court overturned her conviction and acquitted and discharged her in a case involving 78 counts.

Tamakloe-Attionu served as MASLOC CEO from November 2013 to January 2017.

She was prosecuted on charges including conspiracy to steal, stealing, causing financial loss to the State, money laundering, improper payment of public funds and breaches of the Public Procurement Act.

The Accra High Court convicted her in April 2024 and sentenced her to 10 years in prison in absentia.

She returned to Ghana in June 2026 following her extradition from the United States and was subsequently taken into custody.

Her lawyers challenged the conviction at the Court of Appeal, which overturned the High Court’s decision and acquitted and discharged her.

The Attorney-General subsequently filed an application seeking to stay the execution of the appellate court’s judgment while the State pursued a further appeal at the Supreme Court.

However, the application was withdrawn and subsequently struck out by the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, paving the way for Tamakloe-Attionu’s release.
