Two teachers of the Obuasi Senior High Technical School have been arrested for their alleged involvement in an attack on the school’s headmaster, Abdulai Zakaria.

The two teachers, whose identities have not been disclosed, are accused of allegedly instigating students to attack the headmaster during tensions on the school campus on August 5, 2026.

The headmaster sustained machete injuries in the attack and was subsequently admitted to hospital. He has since been discharged.

The Obuasi District Police Commander, Superintendent Mahama Iddrisu, said that three teachers were initially picked up for questioning after the headmaster lodged a formal complaint with the police.

He said investigations into the incident later focused on two of the teachers, who were expected to be put before court for police to seek their remand to enable further investigations.

“The headmaster was attacked. He was hospitalised. After he was released, he gave a statement to the police and, in the statement he gave, he mentioned certain names. He says there were students who attacked him and there were teachers who instigated them to attack him,” Superintendent Iddrisu said.

According to the police commander, some students had accused the headmaster of involvement in ritual activities and alleged that he had inappropriate relationships with female students.

The allegations intensified after students reportedly discovered and exhumed a male foetus buried at a location on the school campus.

Superintendent Iddrisu said the remains were recovered on August 5, 2026 and had since been taken to the Obuasi Government Hospital morgue for preservation.

He said police would conduct a post-mortem examination and, if necessary, a DNA test to establish the identity of the foetus and determine who may have buried it.

“It is true that a baby boy was buried on the campus of the school, very far from the dormitory. Our information was that the students saw it and then went and exhumed it, and then they are putting false allegations that it is the headmaster or they are alleging that it is the headmaster who buried it, without any evidence or eyewitness or any video saying that they have seen him,” he said.

The police commander said the suspicion surrounding the burial contributed to the circumstances that led to the attack on the headmaster.
