Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has praised former Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, for his conflict resolution ability, describing it as one of the qualities he will miss as Builsa North MP, James Agalga, replaces him.

Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana on August 10, 2026, Afenyo-Markin said Ayariga had proven to be an affable and easy-going person during their one-and-a-half years of working together.

He said Ayariga was also open about his feelings and did not allow disagreements to develop into personal animosity.

According to him, Ayariga was predictable in his dealings because he openly communicated what he liked and disliked.

"I could easily predict him on what he likes and what he doesn't like, and he doesn't hold grudges. That is one strength I will miss," he stated.

Afenyo-Markin explained that Ayariga would directly address issues whenever he was unhappy with him, rather than harbouring resentment.

“If he is not happy with you, he will call and say, ' Leader, this one I am not happy with you,'" he indicated.

He noted that people who personalise disagreements and harbour animosity can become emotional and difficult to work with.

“When you are working with somebody, and he keeps things personal or harbours animosity, he becomes emotional and becomes petty and difficult to work with," he said.

Afenyo-Markin said despite their positions on opposite sides of the political divide, he and Ayariga had worked well together.

“All in all, we’ve worked well, and I wish him well in his new portfolio,” he added.
