A 39-year-old driver, Akwasi Tweneboa from Mmedoma in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, is demanding GH¢100,000 compensation from the family of his late boss, Don Tano, after he was asked to leave the house where he lived and served for 26 years.

According to Akwasi, he was only 13 years old when he began living with Don Tano, a Ghanaian based in Holland, until his death in November last year.

Akwasi said the late man was unable to fulfil some promises he made to him before his death and he feels it is unfair for the children to ask him to vacate the house without any form of compensation.

“My mother died in the year 2000, so a man in Holland at the time who also used to stay in Ghana, by the name Don Tano, asked me to stay with him. So, I stayed with him from the year 2000.

“I served him very well because there was no woman in the house and I was responsible for doing everything in the house.

“I learnt how to drive while staying with him, so wherever he went, I was the one who drove him around,” he said.

Akwasi added that he is worried about a recent letter he received from the family informing him of their decision for him to vacate the premises.

“He promised my father that if I became a good person, he would buy me an Ovan vehicle so I could use it to make a living, so my father agreed.

“We stayed together for a long time until he fell sick and passed away in November last year. After the funeral in May, the children brought me a letter last Monday stating that they acknowledge I served their father for more than 20 years, but I should vacate the house by December 31, 2026, because they want to renovate the place so that when they come to Ghana, they will have somewhere to stay,” he said.

Speaking on the programme, Kofi, who inherited the late Tano’s property, said he would engage the deceased’s children to find a way to compensate Akwasi for the years he spent serving their father.
