Cape Verde ended their maiden Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a historic 1-1 draw against Cameroon in their final Group D encounter on Thursday August 6, 2026.

The Indomitable Lionesses started strongly and were rewarded just before half-time when Grace Davilla Mendoua found the back of the net to put Cameroon ahead.

Cape Verde returned from the break with renewed determination and levelled the score in the 50th minute through Tavares Moreira.

Cameroon pushed for a late winner and created several opportunities, but Cape Verde held firm to secure their first-ever point at the WAFCON.

The result had no impact on Cameroon’s qualification, with the Indomitable Lionesses finishing top of the group on seven points and booking a quarter-final meeting with Nigeria.
