Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has taken a subtle swipe at members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah following criticism over his alleged description of her as a "nobody."

Nana Yaa Jantuah represented the government in receiving a petition from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after its "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration on August 6, 2026.

However, Nana Yaa Jantuah's presence to receive the petition appeared to have displeased some members of the NPP, who questioned why she had been delegated instead of a more senior official at the Presidency, with Afenyo-Markin allegedly calling her a “nobody”.

In response to the backlash, Afenyo-Markin has shared a video of the NDC's 2024 #OccupyBoGDemo protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, apparently drawing comparisons with the current situation.

In the said video shared on his Facebook page on Friday, August 7, 2026, which he captioned “Just a gentle reminder to my NDC friends. Cc: Nana Yaa Jantuah”, it showed senior officials of the NDC who were then in opposition expressing displeasure over who had been sent to receive their petition.

Portions of the video showed the then Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, expressing disappointment over the absence of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Ernest Addison, and his deputies to receive the petition after the Bank’s head of security came to receive it.

“So, first, let me say that I feel very disrespected as the leader of the opposition in Parliament, for a simple reason that we demanded to present a petition to the Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Ghana, otherwise known as the Bank of Ghana. The Governor has two deputies, namely Deputy 1 and Deputy 2. Unfortunately, he has decided to disrespect us, and his two deputies has also decided to disrespect us by not being here and to receive our petition,” Ato Forson said.

Ato Forson insisted that the NDC would not hand over its petition to the Bank's head of security, maintaining that they had requested to present it directly to the Governor.

“We never said we are going to present our petition to the head of security or someone responsible for security, with all due respect. You are not the one responsible, and we will not give you our petition,” he added.

He further stated that the Governor would be held accountable for failing to receive the petition and announced that the NDC would return on another day to present it in person.

“Let me also say that, in summary, we will hold you accountable, particularly the Governor. We are demanding his exit, and now that he has decided to disrespect us, we will not present our petition. We will go and come back again. We will come back here again, and we will come back and demand to see him in person,” he had warned.
