Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has fired shots at Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin for referring to her as a “nobody” during the presentation of a petition, describing his conduct as disrespectful.

Jantuah said she was delegated by President John Dramani Mahama to receive the petition on behalf of the presidency, but was instead insulted by the Minority Leader.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Jantuah said Afenyo-Markin had no right to address her in the manner he did, insisting she is old enough to be his mother.

"Afenyo-Markin, I am not your classmate. I am old enough to be his mother. How old is Afenyo-Markin? My mates from Form 5 who have even given birth are older in terms of age. If I'm even two years older than Afenyo-Markin, he doesn't have the right. He basically insulted the president because he was the one who delegated me to receive their petition,” she said.

Jantuah also questioned why the Minority Leader referred to her as a "nobody," saying she has built a successful career outside politics and comes from a respected family.

She said she had worked at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) long before Afenyo-Markin entered the political scene and believes his comments were uncalled for.

"How did we get to this point that Afenyo-Markin can look me in the face and call me a nobody? I have really achieved a lot in life besides politics. I've worked hard and come from a family where my father is an Oxford-trained lawyer. I am the daughter of a lawyer, a pharmacist, and a minister. I was raised well by my parents.

"Where was Afenyo-Markin when I was working at GNPC? What right has he got to insult me? Afenyo-Markin told me that because I am a nobody and didn't expect me to receive their petition, they handed it to their deputy women's organiser to attend to me,” she expressed furiously.

The presidential staffer further described herself as a senior government official and stated that Afenyo-Markin's remarks were unacceptable, especially since they were made publicly.

"I am a senior government official, and you, Afenyo-Markin, led your party to opposition as a Majority Leader. Today, you superintend over 88 MPs, so how dare you stand in front of me to say that. I would not have been offended if he had said it to me in private,” she added.

She has announced plans to petition the Speaker of Parliament to compel the Minority Leader to withdraw the comments.

"I am going to petition the Speaker to let Afenyo-Markin withdraw what he said to me… I am mortified that he could stand there and look in my face to tell me I am a nobody,” she concluded.

It will be recalled that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) organised the “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration on Thursday, August 6, 2026, to present petitions to the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary over what it describes as growing concerns about governance, the rule of law, and the state of Ghana’s democracy.
