The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has cut sod for the construction of a 250-bed boys’ dormitory block with a courtyard at Achimota School, securing Gh¢18,702,819.08 in private funding under its Education Financing and Partnership Initiative (EFPI).

Saka Homes, owned by old student, Ebenezer Kwadwo Saka Addo-Mensah, becomes the first company to fully fund a project under the GETFund initiative.

The Administrator of GETFund, Paul Adjei, cut the sod and received the donation on behalf of the Fund during the ceremony at Achimota School.

Speaking at the event on Thursday, August 6, 2026, Adjei described the project as more than just a new building, but a reflection of a shared commitment to preserving excellence in education and creating an environment where future generations of students can learn, grow, and reach their full potential.



“It’s a privilege to join you today for this significant occasion as we break ground for the construction of a new Boys’ Dormitory Boarding House for Achimota School,” he said.

On behalf of the GETFund Board, Management and staff, Adjei extended sincere appreciation to Mr. Saka Addo Mensah for the remarkable contribution to his Alma Mater.

He noted that the generosity demonstrates the enduring value of giving back and serves as an inspiring example of how alumni can play a transformative role in advancing educational development in Ghana.

Adjei further stressed that quality education depends not only on excellent teaching but also on the availability of safe, modern, and conducive learning facilities.

“Through the new Education Financing and Partnership Initiative, EFPI, at GETFund, we will continue to invest in educational infrastructure including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, lecture theatres, student accommodation and other essential facilities that improve teaching and learning outcomes,” he added.

He said the project aligns with President Mahama’s vision of ensuring that every learner has access to infrastructure that supports academic excellence, character formation, and student well-being.



Saka Homes Managing Director, Ebenezer Saka Addo Mensah, also expressed gratitude to GETFund for its support.

“I am grateful for the support of GETFund. They have guided us and today they’re facilitating this event. It’s my prayer that they’ll encourage other people to also help in educational projects,” he said.

He encouraged students to aspire to give back in the future.

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, also addressed the gathering and emphasized the need for increased investment in education.

He called on President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize funding for basic and foundational education, noting that building a strong foundation at the early level is key to national development.

Headmaster of Achimota Senior High School, Ebenezer Graham Aquaah, described the day as one of gratitude and hope.

He noted that the ceremony marks a new chapter in the school’s 100-year history, during which it has produced leaders of character and service. He said the new dormitory will be a home where future national leaders will live, dream, and study.

The Headmaster expressed appreciation to Mr. Saka Mensah and urged students, especially the boys, to help protect the facility.

Under the GETFund tax credit scheme, companies and individuals who invest in educational infrastructure can choose project locations and brand completed facilities. They are also eligible for tax-deductible expenses through arrangements with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The two-storey 250-bed dormitory is expected to ease accommodation pressure at Achimota School while expanding access to secure housing for students.
