The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has indicated that his party is no longer interested in the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), Jean Mensa.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, the NDC National Chairman said that the recent departure of two deputies of the Electoral Commission - Dr Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey - is good enough for his party.

He stated that the recent exit from office of the two men is good enough for his party, adding that his party would no longer pursue the removal of Jean Mensa.

“We (NDC) will no longer pursue the removal of EC Chairperson. Resignation and retirement of 2 deputies enough reset - Asiedu Nketiah,” the media house wrote in a news card shared on X.

Asiedu Nketiah previously stated that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, should begin to feel lonely in her office following the resignation and retirement of her two deputies.

The EC's Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr Bossman Asare, resigned effective July 31, 2026, while the Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired.

Speaking in an interview on Ambassador TV on August 1, 2026, Asiedu Nketiah said although the court had directed the EC to continue operating and performing its duties, the NDC was closely monitoring developments at the Commission.

He added that if the EC Chairperson feels comfortable remaining in office after the departure of her two deputies, then she should be prepared to experience loneliness.

"We took the issue to court and the court said they should do their work. After the court ruling, have you seen me pulling a gun on Jean Mensa or mobilising NDC people against her? We are just watching her," he said.

"If she feels she can stay there, fine, she should continue to be there. Bossman Asare has resigned and Tettey has gone on pension. The Three Musketeers, two have left, so she needs to cry; I am left alone. If she wants to stay there, she should start crying; I am left alone,” he said.
