Prominent Ghanaian businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has revealed that the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, was his uncle and that he is also a prince of Dagbon.
Woyome made the remarks in an interview with Channel One TV in Yendi during the enskinment of the Regent of Dagbon on Friday, July 31, 2026.
The ceremony took place at the Gbewaa Palace following the death of Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II earlier in July.
During the interview, Woyome said the late Ya-Na was his uncle by blood and explained that he traces his lineage directly to the Dagbon royal family.
"He was my uncle; bloodline. My great-grandfather married the first child and daughter of Ya-Na Yakubu and birthed our grandfather, who also married a Denkyira queen mother and birthed my grandfathers, both Mafi Kumasi and Fievi tribe in Anlo. So I am a prince from there and a prince here.
"So the late Ya-Na is my direct bloodline," he said.

Woyome also described the late overlord as the best Ya-Na in the history of Dagbon and urged the people of the kingdom to emulate his peaceful nature and continue to preserve peace.
"He is a very peaceful man and simple," he said.
The installation of the Regent, Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Abukari, marks a key stage in the succession process following the death of Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, who ruled from 2019 until his passing.
The late Ya-Na was widely credited with helping restore stability to the Dagbon Kingdom after years of chieftaincy conflict.
