'Would he have died if he had power?' - Video of Kristo Asafo members sparks debate online

A viral video from the ongoing burial rites of the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Prof. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, has sparked widespread reactions on social media.

In the video, which was shared online and sighted by GhanaWeb on July 30, 2026, some individuals believed to be members of the Kristo Asafo Mission were seen collecting gravel and stones from around the newly erected statue of the late founder.

In the footage, many of the church members, most of whom were women, were seen putting the gravel into polythene bags, believing it possessed miraculous powers.

The video has since generated mixed reactions online, with many netizens expressing surprise and disappointment over the incident.

Some social media users questioned why people in modern-day Ghana would believe that gravel collected from around a statue could possess miraculous powers.

One X user with the handle @Blessingfago noted that, “Faith means different things to different people, but when belief turns into collecting sand from a statue for miracles, it raises serious questions about how we separate spirituality from superstition.”

Another netizen questioned the significance of the act, arguing that if the late Apostle truly possessed such powers, he would not have died.

Meanwhile, the ongoing final burial ceremony of the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo began on July 30, 2026, at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, despite a 10-day interim injunction issued by the Accra High Court over the funeral and burial arrangements.
