That is good news, but much of the wealth generated from Ghana's gold eventually leaves the country because many of the mines are foreign-owned. We also continue to rely heavily on exporting raw materials like gold, cocoa, and other minerals instead of finished products. Since these resources may not be there forever, this is not something we should celebrate without also asking how we can build a more sustainable, value-added economy.
