Ghana's Black Queens began their TotalEnergies WAFCON Morocco 2026 campaign on a winning note after defeating tournament debutants Cape Verde 2-0 in their Group D opener at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca on Wednesday, July 29,2026.

The Black Queens wasted little time in stamping their authority on the contest as Doris Boaduwaa broke the deadlock in the seventh minute after being set up by Portia Boakye.

Ghana dominated possession throughout the opening half, creating several chances while keeping the Cape Verdeans under constant pressure. Despite their spirited defending, the debutants trailed 1-0 at the break.

The Black Queens doubled their advantage nine minutes into the second half when Cape Verde defender Eleia Vieira inadvertently turned the ball into her own net while attempting to clear a dangerous cross.

Cape Verde's frustrations deepened in stoppage time after Klaydiana Borges received a straight red card, reducing the newcomers to ten players.
