The Eastern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jamal Konneh, has retracted allegations he made against the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, accusing him of involvement in illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.

In a statement dated June 26, 2026, and sighted by GhanaWeb, Konneh acknowledged that he should not have made the allegations during a discussion on Okay FM 101.7 FM about cocoa pricing and illegal mining.

"In the course of my remarks, I alleged that Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was involved in illegal mining in his district. I acknowledge that I ought not to have made those allegations," portions of the statement read.

Konneh said he had fully withdrawn the remarks and any impression they may have created, as well as any harm his comments may have caused.

"Accordingly, I hereby fully withdraw and retract any statement, words, reference, or impression arising from my remarks.

"I sincerely apologise to Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah for any inconvenience, distress, or injury to reputation that may have arisen from my remarks," the statement continued.

The statement further indicated that Konneh had repeated the retraction and apology on Okay FM, the same platform where the allegations were made.

"This retraction and apology is made in good faith, and I have taken steps to repeat same on Okay FM 101.7 FM, being the same platform on which the remarks were made," it concluded.
