Etihad Airways has announced plans to commence direct flights between Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Accra in 2027, a move expected to strengthen air connectivity, boost trade and tourism, and deepen bilateral relations between Ghana and the UAE.

The announcement was made during a courtesy call on the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, by a delegation from Etihad Airways led by the airline's Senior Vice President for Aeropolitical, International and Government Affairs, Captain Khalid Humaid Al Ali.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the new route is expected to further enhance Ghana's aviation sector by improving connectivity between the two countries and creating new opportunities for business and tourism.

Welcoming the delegation, the Transport Minister assured the airline of the government's commitment to supporting the successful launch of its operations in Ghana.

He said the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) were ready to provide the necessary regulatory and operational support to facilitate the introduction of the direct service.

Joseph Bukari Nikpe also encouraged Etihad Airways to explore opportunities to partner with the Government of Ghana in its efforts to re-establish a national airline.

The meeting was attended by the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, the Director of Administration of the Ministry of Transport and other senior government officials.
