Ghana’s Ambassador to Austria, H.E. Matilda Aku Alomatu Osei-Agyeman, has visited key facilities of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) to gain insights into their contributions to radiation safety, environmental protection and the application of nuclear science for national development.

The Ambassador toured the Radiation Protection Institute’s Personnel Dosimetry, Radon and Alpha Spectrometry Laboratories, as well as the Radioactive Waste Management Centre, where she was briefed on ongoing efforts in radiation monitoring, radioactive waste management and environmental safety.

She also visited the Ghana Research Reactor-1 (GHARR-1) Centre, the National Isotope Hydrology Laboratory and the Accelerator Research Centre of the National Nuclear Research Institute (NNRI) of GAEC.

During the engagement, officials of GAEC highlighted the Commission’s role in supporting radiation protection measures, advancing scientific research and ensuring the safe application of nuclear and radioactive technologies.

The visit provided an opportunity for GAEC to showcase its research laboratories, highlight key achievements and demonstrate its contribution to national development through nuclear science and related technologies.

GAEC expressed appreciation to the Ambassador for her interest in its work and continued support for the Commission’s mandate.

The engagement forms part of efforts to strengthen knowledge exchange, collaboration and partnerships in radiation safety, environmental protection, science and technology.

The Ambassador’s visit underscores Ghana’s commitment to leveraging international cooperation and expertise to enhance capacity in nuclear science, research and environmental management.
