Football superstars Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé dominated social media trends following Spain’s 2-0 victory over France in the semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Oyarzabal opened the scoring from the penalty spot midway through the first half after a lapse from France left-back Lucas Digne, who clattered into Yamal while attempting to clear the ball.

The spot-kick was confidently dispatched into the corner by Oyarzabal, and with a lead to defend, Spain’s control of the match only grew.

After a below-par first half, France were expected to respond strongly, but it was Spain who seized the upper hand once more. Porro combined beautifully with Dani Olmo before slotting in the second goal at the near post.

After the game, social media buzzed with comparisons between Yamal and Mbappé, with many fans insisting that the Spanish teenager has consistently had the better of the French captain.

The two players have faced off in 11 encounters, with Yamal’s side winning nine and Mbappé victorious only twice, a statistic many claim shows the teenager is “terrorizing” Mbappé’s career.

Others ridiculed the French star for his inability to overcome Yamal’s Spain in key matches, including Euro 2024, the 2025 Nations League, and now the 2026 FIFA World Cup, all in semi-final clashes.

Yamal is now on the brink of making history, potentially becoming the player who won the European Championship at age 16 and then the World Cup at age 19, cementing his status as one of football’s brightest talents.
