The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has paid glowing tribute to the late Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, describing him as a pillar of wisdom and humility.

In a statement issued on July 15, 2026, the party highlighted his role in consolidating peace and reconciliation within Dagbon.

"As we mourn this monumental loss, we are comforted by the exemplary life he lived and the enduring peace he helped entrenched within the Dagbon Kingdom. His legacy serves as a reminder that true leadership is measured not by the length of one's reign but by the positive and lasting impact one leaves on the lives of others", it stated.

According to the NPP, the late monarch was instrumental in strengthening the chieftaincy institution as a cornerstone of Ghana’s democratic governance and developmental agenda.

The NPP further acknowledged his engagements with successive governments, praising his relentless advocacy for socio-economic advancement in the northern region.

"His Majesty's constructive engagement with successive governments and his unwavering support for initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of Dagbon. His advocacy for development, education, infrastructure and peaceful coexistence will remain an enduring legacy for future generation", it stated.

The party also conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the chiefs, and the people of Dagbon, as well as the entire nation.

The late King who died on July 13, 2026, has been laid to rest at the Katini Royal Mausoleum following the successful completion of all sacred funeral rites prescribed by the customs and traditions of the Dagbon Kingdom.
