Kwame Nkrumah, love him or hate him, gave Ghana a taste of democracy when he helped us free Ghana from colonial rule. What system of governance did the British practice in Ghana, was it democracy or a lower version of democracy? There was bloodshed prior to gaining independence, There was bloodshed when Nkrumah was overthrown.
There were multiple bloodshed via military governments who also believed in their form of democracy. Then came J. J. Rawlings who also gave us independence via bloodshed. From 1998 through today, there has been bloodshed under Kufour, the late Atta-Mills, John Mahama and Akufo-Addo government administrations. Yet since 2000 we have lived in lala land in Ghana claiming to be a democratic nation while the version of democracy we live justfies the bloodshed we encounter each election cycle not to mention the stealing, misuse and abuse of public funds, the pervasive corruption and all the persecution and discriminatory political preferences we collectively characterize as property seeking democracy.
