That is a good signal for the leaders of the country to take drastic actions against galamsey or else one day the whole nation may be swallowed by waters.

Serves you right, and good; you yourselves have identified galamsey as the cause of this, so you better stop before it swallows you one day.

Why wouldn't Samreboi be submerged in water when the Chiefs and townsfolk sat down for illegal miners to strip the once rich vegetation bare for galamsey gold. Na who cause am.The unfortunate thing about this is that it affects the whole country.Mercury and other hard chemicals will now flow into any water body in its path right to the coast and the little agricultural lands left will have produce also contaminated. This is a National DISASTER.

Blame Mahama who is now buying gold from galamseyers. He should go and rebuild the town with some of the gold money he has got.A President who came to stop galamsey buying gold from galamseyers. What a shame!

@Francis B, galamsey is not a simple challenge facing all of us. In my view anyone who wants to enter mining big or small must be registered for us to know exactly where they are operating, those who want to do their own thing must be prosecuted. secondly the regulators of the industry must be up and doing, it must be responsible mining, no mining in forest reserves and water basins. Politics should be taken out of this.Mining has been with us since ancient times, we just have to get it right no matter what.

Very soon it will not be only Samereboi experiencing this disaster if the government does not seriously tackle galamsay. It is not a question of whether one has a licence to operate or not. It seems that apart from the illegal activity of galamsay, there is no proper assessment of the environment to determine the impact of mining in some communities. Making general rules (which seem not enforced) is not the solution. Every licence has to have a full and thorough assessment to determine what can and cannot be done. The government as well as community leaders need to take a serious look at this and realise that mining is not the only solution for economic activity because the cost to the environment could completely outweigh any gains from such activities. We cannot live like people without brains! Where is the gain to these communities inundated by the flooding? We should stop the politics of blaming one party or the other and see this as a matter for all tackle because neither the NPP nor the NDC and as a matter of fact any of our Parliamentarians seem to care enough to tackle this menace in our society. We are sick and tired of the 'dress rehearsals' often fronted by our head of state and government officials on the issue of galamsay that has been ongoing by past and present governments!
Wontumi comes to mind!!!
