Mahama needs third term to consolidate his gains. All that is required is referendum. The emergence of a new face from the NDC to face an old face like Bawumia (who has already marketed himself very well to Ghanaians) will be a gamble for the NDC (can actually come as a shock). Setting a presidential term for Ghana does not support her growth and development.
Countries like Russia, Rwanda, China ect do not have presidential terms and are doing better than Ghana.
So for any country to do well, and strengthen its democracy, the idea is not about presidential term, it is about fighting corruption wholeheartedly.
In China for instance, corruption means death, corruption is made very unattractive and nobody wants to associate with it in China.
So abolishing the presidential term and focusing on how to tackle corruption is the way forward.
If you come and do well and continue to do well, the citizens will continue to vote for you. If you happen not to perform well, you are axed!
