Former COCOBOD Public Affairs Head Fiifi Boafo has condemned the conduct of a teacher captured in a viral video assaulting a female student at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, insisting that disciplinary action must be taken.
Speaking on Joy News, Boafo said regardless of the circumstances leading to the confrontation, a teacher should never engage a student in a physical fight.
“If you play with a dog, the dog will at least lick your lips. As a teacher, one thing you must never do is bring yourself to the level of fighting your student,” he said.
According to him, the incident sends the wrong message and undermines the authority and professionalism expected of teachers.
“It must not happen. It’s unfortunate. The proper sanctions must apply to serve as a deterrent to other teachers who may reduce themselves to the level of fighting their own students.”
His comments come after the Ashanti Regional Police Command arrested 39-year-old Eric Buernortey Apaflo, a hostel caretaker at Nyinahin Catholic SHS, following a viral video showing him assaulting a female student.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest the incident occurred during a confrontation involving the student and some male students over alleged misconduct at the hostel.
For Boafo, whatever provocation may have existed, the teacher’s actions cannot be justified.
“A teacher fighting a girl in school, come on, you can’t reduce yourself to that level. It’s just bad,” he stated.
