The Ghana Police Service has arrested a teacher at the Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School who was captured allegedly assaulting a female student on campus.

According to a Facebook post by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the teacher was arrested following the circulation of a viral video showing him assaulting her.

"Nyinahin Catholic SHS teacher seen in viral video fighting a female student arrested! Regional education directorate investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ," he wrote.

The incident has triggered widespread public concern after a video, circulated on social media, appeared to show a teacher physically assaulting a student as onlookers pleaded with him to stop.

In the footage, the teacher is seen repeatedly punching the female student before lifting and throwing her to the ground, leaving her defenseless.

Witnesses can be heard urging him to consider that the student was a girl and to desist from the attack.

Visibly enraged, the teacher responded by asking, “Is she aware she is a lady?”

School authorities and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have yet to disclose the circumstances that led to the confrontation. However, GES has confirmed that the regional education directorate has launched an investigation and will submit a full report to its headquarters.

The teacher’s arrest comes amid mounting public calls for accountability and stronger measures to protect students within educational institutions. The outcome of the ongoing investigation is expected to determine any further disciplinary or legal action.
