A fuel tanker has caught fire on the Tema Motorway in the early hours of Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

The report of the fire outbreak was made by the Ghana National Fire Service on Tuesday on social media.

In a post shared on its official Facebook handle, the Fire Service stated that its officers from three fire stations are at the scene of the incident trying to bring the situation under control.

“HAPPENING NOW: A fuel tanker has caught fire on the motorway, with the Motorway, Ashaiman & Tema Regional Headquarters Fire Stations responding to the incident,” the service wrote.

The post included a video from the scene of the incident, which showed the fuel tanker in flames.

The tanker appeared to have crashed as it overturned.

Some personnel of the service could be seen spraying water to extinguish the fire, but to no avail.

It is unclear what led to the outbreak, and no casualties have been reported yet.
