President Mahama opens trading at London Stock Exchange, courts global investors

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, visited the London Stock Exchange (LSE) as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana's engagement with global financial markets and attract increased foreign investment into the country.

As part of the visit, President Mahama presided over the Market Open Ceremony at the London Stock Exchange in Paternoster Square, London, officially signalling the start of the day's trading activities at one of the world's leading financial hubs.

The visit formed part of the President's broader agenda to engage market leaders on investment flows, capital market development, and Ghana's position as a preferred destination for international investment.

President Mahama was accompanied by a high-level government delegation comprising the Ministers for Finance, Trade, and Foreign Affairs, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Ghana's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and other senior government officials.

During the engagement, discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Ghana and key players in the global financial sector, while exploring opportunities to increase investment in critical sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

The discussions also highlighted Ghana's commitment to deepening its capital markets, promoting economic growth, and creating a conducive environment for both local and foreign investors.

The London Stock Exchange remains one of the world's foremost financial institutions and a major centre for international investment and capital-raising activities.

President Mahama's visit is expected to boost investor confidence in Ghana and support ongoing efforts to position the country as a competitive investment destination on the African continent.
