PRESIDENT MAHAMA, WHILE IN OPPOSITION SAID THERE WILL BE NO POST RETIREMENT CONTRACTS FOR HIS APPOINTEES BUT THERE ARE SO MANY RETIREES WHOSE CONTRACTS HAVE APPOINTMENTS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED.
It is sickening to see that even the President is going back on his words. He promised there will be no post retirement contracts for his appointees but what do we see. There are so many CEOs state owned organizations in his government who have been granted extension beyond their age of retirement.
Some times you begin to wonder if it all boils down to who brings a lot of kickbacks to the table.
President Mahama, keep your words even if they affect your favourites.
It shall be well with Ghana with or without JM

Simple question: do we actually have the funds for this? Or, as usual, are we leaping before looking? Good luck to the Electoral Commission.

If we don't have the funds to practice democracy, then we shouldn't even have elections at all.

Can the political parties afford to pay for such elections, because it’s not the state who pays for internal elections, that’s why the political parties change the candidates huge amounts of money to pay for the election. If you widen the net it’s means more cost we should think about that. Those who vote to choose the leaders the party pays their transport and feeding for travelling from their various constituency to their district to vote. Remember president Mahama spent 14 or 34 million cedis if I can remember during the 2024 NDC contest on his own. They are not cheap NPP also spent more money on their recent contest. If the party can afford to pay its members to travel and vote no problem.

The move raises an important question: how does a political party ascertain that a registrant is a genuine member? Supporters of an opposing party could register as members and participate in the selection of a candidate they perceive to be less popular, less marketable, or less capable of winning a general election. Their objective would be to weaken the party's electoral prospects and create an advantage for their preferred candidate in their actual party.
Therefore, although the abolition of the delegate system may offer significant benefits, political parties must establish robust verification mechanisms to ensure that only genuine members participate in internal elections. Without such safeguards, the reforms could undermine rather than strengthen internal party democracy. The fact can not be denied that the anti-delegate system has merit, but political parties must guard against infiltration and strategic voting by members of rival parties, otherwise the integrity of the candidate selection process may be compromised.
