A young woman, Anita Efiba Azafoe, has defied difficult circumstances to complete her studies at Ashesi University after starting life as a street vendor following the loss of her father.

Anita, a former student of Kpando Senior High School, initially aspired to become a midwife and had hoped to study at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

She performed strongly in her WASSCE, scoring an aggregate 10 with A1 in both Elective Mathematics and Core Mathematics.

According to a report by Channel One on May 19, 2026, after the death of her father, her life changed as she joined her mother to support the family by selling abolo, a popular steamed corn cake, and fried fish at the Sogakofe barrier.

Despite the challenges, her academic strength and determination kept her story alive until it gained public attention after being shared by Citi TV journalist Caleb Kudah. The report eventually reached Ashesi University, which offered her a full scholarship.

Anita enrolled at Ashesi University and pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration instead of her earlier dream of studying midwifery.

She focused her studies on areas such as supply chain logistics and development economics, applying her strong background in mathematics.

Her journey from street vending to graduating from one of Ghana’s leading universities has been widely described as a story of resilience, hard work, and opportunity.
