The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has disclosed that he played a key role in the appointment of Haruna Iddrisu and Mohammed Mubarak as ministers in the current administration of President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking in Tamale on Friday, May 22, 2026, Asiedu Nketiah explained that after the party’s 2024 electoral victory, he advised the President to ensure that influential figures within the NDC were not sidelined in the formation of government.

He emphasised that including Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka Mubarak in high-profile ministerial positions was crucial for party cohesion and effective governance.

According to him, President Mahama accepted the recommendation, leading to Haruna Iddrisu’s appointment as Minister of Education and Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak’s appointment as Minister for the Interior.

“After we won the election, I told President Mahama that we cannot ignore Muntaka and Haruna in setting up our government, so they needed to be given big positions. President Mahama agreed and gave them the positions, and we are working together and enjoying ourselves,” he stated.

The NDC Chairman also reflected on the party’s internal restructuring ahead of the 2024 polls, describing it as a difficult but strategic move that strengthened parliamentary leadership and contributed to the electoral victory.

In 2023, the party reshuffled its parliamentary front bench, replacing Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader in what was described as part of broader organizational reforms.
