The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has taken a subtle swipe believed to be directed at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, over his ongoing “Thank You” tour.
Speaking in Sawla in the Savannah Region on Friday, May 22, 2026, Haruna Iddrisu remarked, “I recall when President Mahama came for his thank you tour, not the other thank you tour, the proper thank you tour of President Mahama as President and flagbearer.”
He added, “What cannot be said? We can say it. A proper thank you tour of President Mahama, not the curtain-raiser one.”
The comment, which drew laughter from the audience, is alleged to reflect Haruna Iddrisu’s interest in the upcoming NDC flagbearership race.

His remarks were widely interpreted as a jab at Asiedu Nketiah, who is currently engaging party leaders nationwide in his own “Thank You” tour as part of an alleged vision to lead the NDC.
On the other hand, Asiedu Nketiah has defended his decision to replace Haruna Iddrisu and others as leaders of the Minority in the 8th Parliament.
He argued that the changes were necessary and ultimately helped the NDC secure victory in the 2024 elections.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Chairman of the NDC, says the party’s 2024 election victory was partly driven by deliberate changes to its parliamentary leadership to improve electoral competitiveness.
