Minister visits victims of Adaklu mudslide that submerged 5 houses

The delegation also visited injured victims receiving treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital

Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, in the company of the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Kwame Governs Agbodza, and the District Chief Executive, Jerry Yao Ameko, visited Adaklu-Helekpe to commiserate with families affected by a devastating mudslide from the Adaklu Mountain.

The mudslide, which occurred following torrential rains on May 20, 2026, struck the community at the foot of the mountain, burying at least five houses and nine vehicles while leaving several residents displaced.

In a post shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on May 21, 2026, James Gunu described the incident as ‘a deeply distressing situation,’ adding that authorities remain concerned about the wellbeing of affected residents.

“It is a deeply distressing situation, and our thoughts remain with all those impacted,” he said.

The delegation also visited injured victims receiving treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital (Trafalgar), where the minister announced a donation of GH¢20,000 to support medical bills and other patients at the ward.

“In support of their recovery, we made a donation of GH¢20,000 to assist with their medical bills, as well as to support other children presently on admission at the ward,” he stated.

Gunu further disclosed that he had engaged the regional leadership of the National Disaster Management Organisation to undertake a detailed assessment of the affected area following the disaster.

“Furthermore, I have engaged the regional leadership of NADMO, who were on-site yesterday, to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the affected area. This exercise will help determine the safety of continued habitation and guide the necessary interventions going forward,” he said.

He reiterated government’s commitment to supporting affected residents and ensuring their long-term safety.

“Government remains committed to ensuring the safety, relief, and long-term wellbeing of all affected persons,” he added.
