The President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has hailed President John Dramani Mahama for improving the road network in the Bono Region through the government’s “Big Push” initiative.

Speaking at the general meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani, he said; "The programme, backed by dedicated funding for major projects nationwide, has already made a noticeable difference in the region and is expected to boost socio-economic development.

“The ongoing road projects in the region are progressing steadily, based on my personal observations,” the traditional ruler said, during a general meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani," according to a report by myjoyonline.com.

He added that contractors on the various sites appear committed to finishing within the set timelines.

Projects under the initiative in the region include the Sunyani Outer Ring Road, the Sunyani-Atronie-Acherensua Road, the Sunyani-Wenchi-Berekum Road, and the Jinijini-Sampa Road.

The Dormaahene went further, saying he would personally walk from Dormaa Ahenkro to Accra to thank the President if the Accra-Kumasi Expressway is completed on schedule.

He noted that he has seen initial work by the military and hopes it will pave the way for the main construction to start.

The 198.7-kilometre Accra-Kumasi stretch will become Ghana’s six-lane access-controlled tolled expressway, cutting travel time and improving economic activity.

“The importance of that road is such that strategic measures must be deployed to ensure the project starts and is completed on time to further ease the frustrations of drivers and passengers on the road,” he said.

He also advised Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboah to stay focused on his mandate and ignore political distractions.

On the chieftaincy dispute in Sampa, the Dormaahene appealed to residents to avoid violence, revealing that the conflict has allegedly claimed about 20 lives.

He urged bloggers and journalists to report with restraint and professionalism, and called on the judicial committee handling the case to ensure justice and truth prevail.
