'You don't treat the hand that has fed you like that' - Gbande

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has criticised what he describes as the unfair treatment being meted out to the party’s National Organiser, Joseph Yamin.

Mustapha Gbande, who also serves as Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, stated that despite the sacrifices Joseph Yamin has made for the party, he has been left alone to fight his battles.

“He has declared that anybody who is able to prove that Yamin has done anything wrong should jail both him and me,” Gbande stated.

“I will say this every day. Anybody who comes with evidence that Yamin has done something wrong should jail the two of us. And if it turns out he has done nothing wrong, then those who accused him must apologise to the person they have offended,” he added.

Speaking in an interview on Onua TV on May 11, 2026, he further claimed that the illegal mining allegations, popularly known as galamsey, levelled against Yamin are baseless.

“We have demonstrated ingratitude towards the National Organiser of the party. I have told Raymond Archer to bring out the report against him. They should not hide anything; they should bring it out.”

“You don’t treat the hand that has fed you like that… It is wrong. EOCO has nothing against him,” he stressed.

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice has directed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate two NDC executives over allegations of illegal mining.

In a letter dated July 15 and addressed to EOCO, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine stated, “I am directing your office to invite the following persons named in recent credible reports for interrogation, namely Mr. Yakubu Abanga and Mr. Joseph Yamin.”

The letter further directed EOCO to investigate any other persons found complicit in illegal mining activities.

“The scope of this investigation should include the matters highlighted in Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report on illegal mining,” the letter added.

EOCO was also advised to invite the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission to assist with investigations.

Some small-scale miners have accused NDC National Organiser Joseph Yamin and Third Vice Chairman Yakubu Abanga of allegedly fueling the activities of a rogue anti-galamsey taskforce accused of terrorising legitimate miners.
