All major roads in the country should be double roads to avoid these head on collision. It’s about time single lanes are done for inner towns and cities with lower speed limits.

The government should stop constructing any new expressway to Kumasi. We like it like this. The road corridors are okay for us. We don't need any expressway

I remember as a child, there as this spot called hmm.., forgotten but I think Potroso or so, between Suhum and Kyebi. Almost every week, there was one accident there, and I really had cold-seats whenever we got to that area. Apparently the accidents were due to bad road design; - sloppy and curvy section combined with top speed so the inertia force on vehicle was enormous - causing tangential thrust on the cars.
But as usual, our folks attributed the accidents to a curse!!!

You are right. The small town is rather called POTROASE. It used to be an accident prone area and the town was nicknamed AIRPORT because if drivers are not careful, Passengers will be flown to Heaven or Hell from there. Akuffo Addo did well by diverting the road through Akyem Asafo and making making Kibi which is an old town degenerate to become a big village.
Drivers used to have accidents there because they never followed the speed limit on that curvy road and some drivers will be foolishly drank with Palm Wine and APIO. Yes, and sometimes complimented their drinking with OKRAMAN KOKOO which is a term for cooked Goat meat. I respect Akuffo Addo for making the road diversion possible.
It is unfortunate that most of our roads do not have the appropriate road signs. Even where they do, most drivers speed anyhow. I have suggested that vehicle drivers should be made to take drugs and alcohol tests before they leave their departing stations, take more tests wherever there is a Police Barrier on their route, and take their final test on arrival at their destinations.
Drivers should be made to take reevaluation test every year before their Drivers’ License are renewed. Drivers who fail any DUI tests must have the license suspended for three years. If caught driving under influence again within one year, the Driver should be made to do a 12 months Prison term. If he repeats the Driving Under the Influence for the second time in two years, the Drivers license should be suspended for five years. If the Driver has a license suspended and drives without a license, he should be made to do three years imprisonment with very hard labor.
The roads to the Kwahu Mountains are more curvy and dangerous but there is not that many accidents on the roads because the Drivers seldom drive under the influence of Drugs and Alcohol. The courts should be very hard on drunken Drivers. If Drivers are tested three times on the roads and at their destinations, they will never drink and drive.
All Commercial Drivers should be made to undergo a compulsory Driving School and write and pass a standardized Driving Test.
Finally, Commercial Drivers should not be allowed to drive for very long vehicles without resting. Commercial Vehicles driving from say Accra to beyond Kintampo for example should have two qualified and Certified Drivers. We can’t allow Vehicle Drivers to be reckless and be killing innocent passengers. Passengers should be encouraged to report Drivers who drive and drink Alcohol. I have done it before when I took a vehicle from Dumbai to Koforidua. Let us help save innocent lives.

Jon, that was a joking expression that was commonly used. Accidents around POTROASE was just unbelievable especially at the time when we had a lot Nissan Urvan buses that were brought in from Nigeria. Most of the Ghanaian Drivers were not passenger vehicles Drivers but wanted to drive to impress their Ghanaian friends, especially their girlfriends that they could drive. Those Urvan vehicles became DRIVING COFFINS. Finally, Rawlings’ Government had to come out with limitations and adjustments on how fast those vehicles could move on our roads.

Well, the Kwahu (Atibie-Nkawkaw) road is better now, compared with how it was in the 70s and 80s. The last time I climbed was 2019. Sometime back, the Obomeng-Nkakaw via Nsuta was much better, but now very bad.
All the same, last week 7 people perished in a gory accident in between Atibie and Nkawkaw.

It is sorry that all kinds of people without disciplines are allowed on our roads. I drove on that road from Nkawkaw through Kwahu to Miaso where there was a nice food market. You could travel from Miaso to Tafo.

I was in a VIP bus from Accra to Kumasi and the driver was driving carefully but some 2 young men started shouting at the driver to drive faster. I was shocked to hear that and I have heard similar episodes from friends too.

It's not about URGING motorists to observe road safety, they just don't know anything about road safety. It's not about whether the steering wheels were moved from right to left or left to right, it's not STRICT application of the law that would make our roads safer! In Ghana the only qualification for any to drive on our roads is the know how to move a vehicle forward and backward! Have the thought about how illiterate drivers read such road signs as ROAD DIVERSION or KEEP RIGHT? Almost all these Pragya riders no next to nothing about road signs and safety yet their populations keep rising by the day - GH is in a mess.
